In this week’s tennis psychology podcast, mental game of tennis expert, Dr. Patrick Cohn answers:

A question from a tennis parent whose player who performs well in practice, but doesn’t play as well in tournaments.

Dr. Cohn gives mental game tips on how to improve confidence in tennis.

Listen to this month’s tennis psychology podcast to learn how to improve your performance in tennis and other mental game barriers that limit your performance.

“I have talked about this a lot in the podcasts themselves, about the number one sign your athlete needs mental coaching or would benefit from mental coaching is the fact that they look like a different tennis player in practice compared to competition.”

“What does that mean? That means they play a different style of game in practice versus competition. And typically they under perform in competition. Then you have to ask the question, why would athletes under perform when they go to competition? What’s changing for them? Obviously, they are going to say to you ‘It matters now, there are rankings, there are points involved, and there is pride.’ Certainly, they feel more pressure to perform well in tournaments.”
